Africa World Airlines one of Ghana’s domestic airline has completed the International Air Traffic Association (IATA) Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) and presented their certificate to the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) in Accra.
Captain Samuel Thompson, the Chief Operations Officer for Africa World Airlines in his presentation of the certificate to GCAA stated that AWA having been in operation for three (3) years since September 21st, 2012, following a letter received through GCAA from IATA had to comply with the IATA operational safety audit.
The chief operations officer of AWA explained that, following the letter received through GCAA in February 2014, they immediately invited IATA auditors to commence their audit which lasted till May 2015. The certificate was received late January 2016. Finally, AWA has the ability to operate for another two (2) years before renewal of the certificate to ensure the standards are consistently maintained, said Captain Samuel Thompson.
Mr. Simon Allotey, the Director General of Ghana Civil Aviation Authority commended Africa World Airline for acquiring the IOSA certificate. He said, “This certification confirms that AWA has indeed met IATA’s stringent audit requirements and that the airline has demonstrated high level of operational safety standards; it is also a confirmation that GCAA has a good safety oversight over the airline”.
He commended AWA for the outstanding achievement and would like to encourage  the recent ratification of the Cape Town Convention and of the various Bilateral Air Service Agreements with several African and European states to expand their route network.
Mr. Daniel Abossey, Manager, Safety Regulations at GCAA in a comment said “AWA will have to do well to maintain their IOSA certificate because it is very difficult to maintain than to attain the certificate”.
Mr. Simon Allotey, the Director General Ghana Civil Aviation Authority congratulates African World Airlines for their achievement and promised to ensure that they operate within the international standard of the Aviation Industry.
